NLLGG-bijeenkomst bij T-DOSE in Eindhoven

Datum: zaterdag 12 november, 2016

Evenals vorig jaar vindt de laatste landelijke bijeenkomst van 2016 niet in Utrecht plaats, maar bij T-DOSE in Eindhoven. Zoals je van ons gewend bent, zullen er uiteenlopende sessies door ons georganiseerd worden. Bovendien zijn we met de vereniging aanwezig met een stand, waar je als bezoeker met ons bij kan praten of kennis kan maken.

Weet je al wel veel van Linux maar vind je presenteren toch net een stapje te ver? Naast de gebruikelijke technische onderwerpen geeft Nicoline Swen gedurende de zaterdag een tweetal presentatietrainingen namens NLLGG in Zaal 1 (Track 4).

De zaalnummering bij T-DOSE is iets anders dan wij gewend zijn: Zaal 1 = Track 4; Zaal 2 = Track 5.

Wegwerkzaamheden

In het weekend van 12&13 november zijn er wegwerkzaamheden gaande in Eindhoven. Je moet dus even goed opletten, maar de omleidingsborden brengen je (als het goed is ;)) naar de Rachelsmolen 1.

Daarnaast rijden er geen treinen tussen Breda en Tilburg; de NS zet bussen in. Hou dus rekening met extra reistijd.

Sinds het winnen van een landelijk debattoernooi in 2005 geeft Nicoline debat- en presentatietrainingen. Daarnaast stond zij 16 jaar voor de klas gecombineerd met een baan als dominee. Momenteel werkt ze full time voor Vrijzinnigen Nederland.
Daarnaast is zij moeder van drie kinderen, de echtgenote van Alexander Swen en geeft ze in haar vrije tijd nog trainingen op het gebied van debat- en/of presentatie.

Als je dit weekend een talk gaat houden op T-DOSE wil je natuurlijk dat iedereen je verhaal goed mee krijgt. Kleine aanpassingen aan je presentatiestijl kunnen hierin een groot verschil maken.

Aan de hand van jouw talk gaan we aan het werk. We besteden aandacht aan je non-verbale communicatie, de structuur van je verhaal en het belang van het labellen van begrippen.

Niet iedereen zal tijdens deze training aan het zelf presenteren en ontvangen van feedback toekomen, er worden voorbeelden gebruikt. Wel werkt iedereen ter plekke aan zijn eigen presentatie.

Deze training is open voor iedereen maar richt zich op mensen die een eigen presentatie bij zich hebben.

Je weet veel over een bepaald (technisch) onderwerp en regelmatig krijg je de vraag daar iets over te vertellen. Maar tot nu toe heb je dat (bijna) altijd afgehouden. Niet omdat je er niet genoeg van weet maar omdat je je onzeker voelt wanneer je voor een groep staat. En dat is zonde, want echt iedereen kan leren spreken in het openbaar.

Tijdens deze training oefen je met presenteren en krijg je tips hoe je verhaal goed te structureren.

Je hoeft geen eigen materiaal mee te nemen (dat mag wel).

Deze training is ook voor gevorderde sprekers interessant maar is in de eerste plaats bedoeld voor mensen met weinig of geen ervaring.

In vogelvlucht nemen we wat basistheorie over presenteren door. Vervolgens gaan we aan de slag. Je leert, ook door het kijken naar anderen en het geven van feedback.
Ook is er ruimte voor wat verdieping, zoals bijvoorbeeld:

- Omgaan met vragen tijdens je presentatie.
- Het gebruik van slides.

Deze training is open voor iedereen.

Onderwerp: Privacy in the cloud

Daniel Huigens

Biografie:

Daniel, born in '96, has been making web applications for the last for ~5 years and web sites for even longer.
The last two years he has spent building Airborn OS, a web application poised to compete with Google Docs by respecting the user and their privacy.

This talk aims to answer the following questions:

- More and more of our daily activities on the computer are moving to the cloud. Because the cloud brings convenience: you never have to worry about forgetting your USB-stick anymore, and you can make last-minute edits on your smartphone. But by moving to the cloud we throw away some of our privacy. What if everyone puts their financial data in Google Docs in the future? Their thoughts and feelings? So we should find a way to combine the convenience of the cloud with the privacy of a traditional desktop application. How do we do that?
- What advances in on-line security have happened in the past few years and are happening now?
- How can we build on that to achieve our goal of privacy in the cloud?
- As a company, when should you open source and when not? As a user, how do we get more companies to open source?

Since 2008, he has coordinated regional meetings of the Linux user groups in Berlin and Brandenburg. Author for magazines such as LinuxUser, and Linux Magazine. Co-Author of the Debian Package Management Book (http://dpmb.org/).

The command grep is common, but there is much more to look for data. The talk deals with a variety of grep-like but specific commands to find patterns in data formats such as pdf files, mail archives, xml structures, spreadsheet data etc.

Onderwerp: Getting traction for (your) open source projects

Michael Boelen

Biografie:

Michael Boelen specializes in the field of Linux and UNIX security. He worked as a consultant for several Fortune 500 companies like Philips and ASML. In 2013, he started security firm CISOfy with the goal to simplify security. Focus areas include allowing companies to perform auditing, hardening, and compliance checking. Michael is the author of several open source security tools: Rootkit Hunter (rkhunter) and Lynis. Other work includes supporting the CIS benchmarks, organizing the Dutch UNIX conference NLUUG, and maintaining @infosec_cfp. He blogs at Linux-Audit.com and can be found on Twitter (@mboelen).

So you got an idea, some code, and now you only need the users and contributors? A good idea is not enough to have a successful project. Open source software projects need also marketing, promotion, and optimization. We will look at the technical and non-technical level on how to enhance OSS projects. This with the goal to get more happy users and gain more traction. I will share from personal experience what works (and what not!), including examples. Subjects include simplicity, the website, dealing with social media, optimize for users and search engines, and the tiny details that matter.

This talk is useful for developers, contributors, and also users of open source software. No programming skills are required.

Two-factor authentification in combination with the YubiKey security token helps to achieve a significant improvement of security for the access of applications and your mobile devices. This presentation will show the different YubiKey models, and explain the infrastructure and both its dependencies and advantages that are needed to use two-factor authentification with Linux in your everyday life.

Onderwerp: Building secure software with OWASP

Martin Knobloch

Biografie:

Martin is Principal Consultant at Nixu. With his background in Java Development, he understands the complexity of Enterprise software development, Agile Scrum environments and continuous delivery / deployment. Martin got involved in OWASP in 2006 and is OWASP Netherlands chapter leader sinds 2007. He has contributed to several OWASP projects and is co-organizer of the OWASP conferences as the OWASP BeNeLux-Day and the OWASP AppSec-Eu. Martin is a frequent speaker at universities, hacker spaces and various security, test and developer conferences.

Many know about OWASP, but seldom more than the OWASP TopTen. OWASP was founded from developers for developers to educate and help building more secure software.
This presentation is about tools and guide OWASP.org offers developers to increase security in their software development. From making security requirements explicit and visual, secure development tooling to verification of the security, OWASP has a lot to offer. This presentation gives you a head-up on what OWASP does offer you for free!
